How to Turn a Diet Into a Lifestyle

By: SweatNET Indianapolis

1️⃣Know that you are in control of your food choices!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My clients know not to let a diet or “food rules” consume their days. As soon as you can let go of the “food rules” then you start to let go of the idea that you are “starting and stopping” something (your diet). Plus, you’ll start to build confidence in your own choices.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2️⃣Know that you are not good or bad because of your food choices! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀
I work a lot with my clients to understand that they are not what they eat. They are not good people because they eat kale and they are not bad people because they ate a cupcake. Removing emotion from your food choices can help prevent falling into the diet shame cycle.

3️⃣Set small goals and remain consistent over time!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You will create changes that last by making small goals that you know will create consistency in your life. Being too restrictive or overdoing it at the gym may get you quicker results, but probably can they be maintained week to week?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4️⃣Know that real change takes time!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Maybe you are doing everything right, wouldn’t you hate to quit right before your real change occurs? It can take 6 to 9 months for your body to adjust to healthy changes. Have patience with yourself. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀
5️⃣Don’t focus on the scale!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My clients celebrate non-scale victories ever week! Examples include, energy, mood, less cravings, satiety, feeling stronger, increased endurance, increased confidence, and feeling more comfortable in your clothes! The scale is one very small piece of the puzzle and doesn’t usually give us useful info into your progress. So only check it as you feel comfortable. If it discourages you- check it less. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨And if you need some help- ask!✨
