Sophie Mercure has been a certified personal trainer for 4 years now and is a rare Charlotte native! She received her Personal Training Certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine in 2018 and became a NASM Certified Nutrition Coach in October 2020.
Sophie’s interest in fitness was sparked while studying and dancing professionally as a young adult in NYC. During her 4.5 years performing at Gelsey Kirkland Ballet she rehabbed an ACL surgery and chronic hip flexor overuse with the help of regular physical therapy and a strict physical fitness routine. When she moved back to Charlotte, her past professional experience drew her into teaching multiple dance styles and eventually led her to personal training. She has been a Charlotte Ballet Academy faculty member for 5.5 years now, where she is an Associate Rehearsal Director for the Academy students and Conditioning coach for CBA’s Pre-Professional Trainee Division.
Sophie developed her own dance-based fitness method, BallerinaFit, to make dance more approachable and accessible to everyone. The class, BallerinaFit, challenges and improves balance, core stability, stamina, coordination, and builds the long, lean muscles of a dancer.
“I help women find a fitness routine they genuinely enjoy and love. Making them consistent so they see results, with mental clarity, fitness goals, whatever! As someone that struggled with body image and a negative inner voice when I was a young dancer, helping women find a healthy routine they love that makes them feel strong and confident in their bodies brings joy and means so much to me.”
