Have you ever heard of the song “Disco Inferno” that says “burn baby burn?” Well this week’s SweatDate at Burn Boot Camp located on Elizabeth, reminded me of that song, not only because of the lyrics, but because of how much I felt “the burn” during the workout!
As soon I walked in the door I was asked a number of questions, and one of them was if I had any injuries or physical limitations. A few weeks before attending one of the classes, I had fractured my toe playing soccer and was just allowed to take my boot off. So, my coach was able to modify the workouts to fit my specific situation.
If you’re someone like me who doesn’t know how to stay still, you know what I am talking about. If I go even two days without working out I start feeling stressed, anxious and cranky. It was difficult for me because I was told to not bend my foot so for someone as hard-headed as me, it was so nice to have the help of Burn so I was able workout without doing damage to my foot. The second time was a whole different story; I was fully healed and did all the workouts with hardly any modifications… I said hardly (the workouts are hard y’all)!
No matter what stage in my fitness journey I was at, Burn Boot Camp was extremely helpful in meeting my specific circumstances. The coaches also kept me highly motivated throughout the session. Whether it was with high fives after I finished burpees, or roars of applause when I completed the finisher, there was constant genuine encouragement.
At Burn Elizabeth, I realized that they strive to challenge everyone so you can get the most out of each session. It’s designed to maximize your results in 45 minutes with an average burn of 700 calories per camp. They accomplish this by combining in a variety of calisthenic movements and HIIT workouts (high-intensity interval training). From start to finish it was non stop, literally. Even when I was waiting to hear what’s next, the coach was telling us to jog in place or to keep moving around. I enjoyed the intensity of the workout but was also relieved when the coach showed us modifications which allowed me to make the workout as challenging as it could be for me!
I saw a variety of people in the classes, from busy parents, to students on the go. I felt inspired by the all the strong women I was working out with. Burn Boot Camp is a woman based studio in an non intimidating environment where other women create an encouraging and empowering mind set. They do have some coed camps throughout the week for men to join too!
I also want to point out that they have focus meetings, which are unlimited one-on-one sessions. These sessions for you to meet with just you and your head trainer. The trainers are equipped with the knowledge necessary to help you reach your goals quickly and efficiently. Whether it’s advice regarding nutrition, performance, lifestyle or weight loss
“It’s 70% what you’re putting in your body, 30% what you’re doing in the gym”, we’ve all heard that somewhere right? I’ve had to do it on my own at times and it is hard to do. That is why it is so great to have trainers available to you at Burn to help you and keep you accountable.
Not many studios or gyms give their members the opportunity to talk about their nutrition goals or teach them how to appropriately meal plan and eat without it being at an extra cost. They also have free childcare offered at various times so you can take that time to put yourself first.
