Goddess Games is an all women’s competition created to give women a safe, encouraging, and positive environment to see their athletic potential. It’s an event meant to inspire others and to be inspired. Each year Goddess Games raises money and awareness for a local organization that has a direct impact on a women’s issues.
As friends and fellow CrossFit coaches, Candice Case and Amy Bright bonded over their passion for helping others. Both grew up in active households, surrounded by sisters, and recognized the benefits women of supporting each other. Candice created Wonder Promotions and Events to host fundraisers and to give back to the community. Amy was an elementary school teacher and invested herself daily in helping her students, as well as giving her energy and efforts as an owner of CrossFit Northlake. Candice and Amy wanted to create an opportunity to empower women of all ages and after many heartfelt discussions, Goddess Games was born in 2014.
For the 2014 and 2015 events, Goddess Games donated the proceeds to The Justice Project, a local nonprofit committed to combating sex trafficking and the sexual exploitation of women, with a focus on rescue and housing. Charlotte was sixth in the nation for human trafficking and the goal was to help raise the needed funds to rescue women from this horrific industry and give them the opportunity to have a safe and fulfilling life that many of us take for granted.
Since 2016, Goddess Games has worked with Dove’s Nest, the women’s addiction recovery program of the Charlotte Rescue Mission. The CRM relies solely on private donations to operate and when the Dove’s Nest expanded its program to serve children as well as their mothers, the need for community assistance increased. The program focuses on spiritual, physical, social and psychological recovery and to help women understand and deal with the core issues of their alcohol and/or drug addiction. It addresses women specific issues including mental, emotional, physical and sexual abuse, and there’s a special team to assist with issues unique to mothers and their children. Residents come to Dove’s Nest to rest, mend, heal and gain a new direction in their lives.
The vision for Goddess Games has always been women helping women. No matter age, social status, religious or political views, fitness level, successes, mistakes, or choices, women come together to support one another and a cause and positively influence lives and their community. Every woman is important. Every woman is worthy. Every woman is a Goddess.
Goddess Games 2018 will be held on August 11th and 12th at CrossFit Northlake. Team competition is almost full and registration will close soon.
